Mains-powered Devices

Constant-power devices form the backbone of a mesh network. They forward messages amongst each other and also deliver them to battery-powered devices. These devices, being continuously powered, serve as essential relay points in the Bluetooth Mesh network, ensuring reliable message transmission across the entire network infrastructure. Unlike battery-powered devices that enter sleep mode to conserve energy, mains-powered devices are always active and ready to receive and forward messages. This constant availability makes them crucial for:

  • Network Stability: Creating a reliable communication infrastructure by maintaining constant network connectivity
  • Message Routing: Acting as relay nodes to extend the network's range beyond direct radio coverage
  • Message Storage: Holding messages for battery-powered devices until they wake up from sleep mode
  • Network Coverage: Providing consistent coverage throughout the installation area by bridging communication gaps

The more mains-powered devices are present in a network, the more robust and responsive the overall mesh network becomes.
