What are "Rooms"?

Short Definition

Rooms are location based groups for controlling several devices at the same time which are created automatically.

Detailed explanation

Rooms serve to assign each device in a network to exactly one real location in the user's environment. This offers several advantages:

  • All lights in a room can be controlled together (e.g., "All Off")
  • Wall switches, which often control an entire real room, can be easily linked to the existing room in the app
  • Devices can be easily found when, for example, the smartphone should be as close as possible to the device (e.g., in case of a firmware update)
  • A firmware update can be performed room by room

Rooms can be created either at the beginning or while adding new devices. After completing the installation, all rooms where mesh devices are installed should be set up. Templates for the most common room types, e.g., Kitchen, Living Room, etc. are available for comfortable setup.

The setup of rooms is explained here.

Rooms and groups are very similar. Unlike rooms, groups are optional. A device must be assigned to exactly one room, but can be assigned to no, one, or many groups. For more details, see the "Groups" section.
