What are "Rooms"?

Short Definition

Rooms are location based groups for controlling several devices at the same time which are created automatically.

Rooms

Rooms serve the purpose of assigning each device of a network to a specific location in the user's environment. This offers several advantages:

  • Devices can be easily found again when, for example, the smartphone should be as close as possible to the device (e.g., in the case of a firmware update)
  • A firmware update can thus be performed room by room
  • All lights in a room can be conveniently controlled together (e.g., All Off)
  • Wall switches, which often control a room, can be easily linked to the already existing room

Rooms can be set up all at once right from the start or during the addition of new devices. After completion of the installation, all rooms should be set up in which mesh devices have been installed. Templates of the most common rooms are available for convenient setup.

Rooms and groups are very similar. The difference is that a device must be assigned to at least one room, whereas membership in one or more groups is optional. The section "Groups" provides a more detailed explanation of the use of groups.
